Dear NCPS Students, Parents, & Families:

It’s an absolute honor to serve as the Division Superintendent of Northumberland County Public Schools! Your child’s education is one of the most important investments and experiences that we, collectively, must nurture, cultivate, and continuously improve upon. My goal is to collaborate and facilitate open communication with all stakeholders (you, your student, our teachers, our administrators, and our staff) to assess what is working, to identify areas of improvement, and, then, to put steps in place to continuously strengthen our educational/instructional programs for all students, PreK – 12.

Together we can foster a learning environment in our school system that is engaging, relevant, and meaningful. Please always feel free to stop by, call, or send an email to discuss your child’s educational experiences and progress. Words cannot capture how proud I am of the hard work of our teachers, staff, and administrators.

I look forward to working with you in the years ahead! Go Indians!

Sincerely,

Holly Wargo, Ed.D., NBCT

Division Superintendent

The program is open to educators who hold a current renewable Virginia teaching license in the assigned teaching area. Teachers must be employed in a Virginia public or accredited nonpublic school. Candidates should be dedicated, knowledgeable, and skilled, and plan to continue in an active teaching role. Congratulations to NMS Teacher of the Year Ms. Tiffany Rombold!!!
Like many in the education profession, Ms. Tiffany Rombold was called to teach because of the influential teachers and mentors in her life. Rombold was an average student who faced academic challenges. At the start of high school, Rombold was still determining whether college was an option. Then, her freshman English teacher, Mrs. Nancy Collier approached her to ask her to join the Academic Decathlon team. That moment was a turning point for Rombold. Through Collier’s encouragement and persistence, Rombold graduated high school and then attended the same college as Collier, Edinboro University of Pennsylvania.

Rombold was the first in her family to attend a four-year college or university and earn a Bachelor of Science in Education. Secondary Education English was a competitive field at EUP, and through the mentorship of Dr. Stacie Wolbert, Rombold found success in her field experience and student teaching placements. Through Dr. Wolbert’s exemplary pedagogical practices, Rombold learned to value relationships and rapport with students, which became the foundation of her teaching practices.

Collier and Wolbert’s unwavering belief in Rombold drives her commitment to life-long learning and growth as an educator. By chance, Rombold happened upon Richmond County Public Schools at a job fair in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, realizing it was the fit she needed. For the next 11 years, Rombold
taught at Richmond County Intermediate, then Rappahannock High School. Rombold primarily
taught English 8 but also had the opportunity to teach several electives, including journalism,
Read 180, and Introduction to Theatre.

In working with students, Rombold was inspired to earn a Master of Education Reading Specialist endorsement to specialize in reading instruction to help students be successful at the secondary level and beyond. March 2020 changed Rombold’s career trajectory and set a new course. When students returned to the classroom during the pandemic, Rombold faced new obstacles and challenges as she tried to help
students navigate the unknown. Seeing the positive changes in students by emphasizing social-emotional learning in conjunction with the English curriculum, Rombold resumed her role as a student and pursued a Master of Education in School Counseling. In 2022, Northumberland County Public Schools helped Rombold make her dream a reality by offering her a School Counselor position. The students, staff, administration, and community have worked alongside Rombold to help create meaningful experiences.

Being named the 2024 NMS Teacher of the Year is the highest honor bestowed upon Rombold. Rombold’s greatest educational accomplishments are being a small part of her students’ educational journeys and helping them believe in themselves. Her dedication and determination to reach students led to her coaching and sponsoring varsity sideline and competition cheer, junior varsity softball, competition theatre, Gifted-Thinkers, yearbook, and co-chairing cancer awareness events. Seeing her students years later as successful adults and celebrating their triumphs continues to motivate her to strive for excellence as an educator.
